Apps for your computer and phone

They sync folders, open files from your phone and send new photos to your server on their own.

Download the appsSet up the server first

There are several apps because the jobs differ. A working folder is best kept fully in sync. A large collection is better browsed on the server and downloaded one file at a time. Private documents belong in an encrypted vault.

They all connect to the same server, so each device can use whichever suits it.

One folder on your computer and your server

Folder sync is built into the DiscoDrive apps for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android. Change a file in the folder and it changes on the server, and the other way round.

  • On your computer it is an ordinary folder: work in it with any program.
  • Which folders to sync is set on the server.
  • Every file goes through an integrity check on the way.
  • For Linux without a graphical interface, such as a server, there is a separate sync service.
Folders and files match, and changes travel both ways.

The whole server in the app, only what you need on disk

The app shows your entire storage but only downloads what you open. A large collection will not fill up your laptop.

  • Available for macOS, Windows and Linux. Can start with your computer.
  • Files download when you open them.
  • Whole folders can be uploaded and downloaded, and vaults are handled right in the app.
  • On a Mac there is also a native app: files and open vaults appear right in Finder, and you can keep what you need on disk.
  • Interface in seven languages.

iPhone, iPad and Android

Your whole storage, vaults and sync for a chosen folder — in the apps for iOS and Android.

iOS

Your cloud shows up in Files on iPhone and iPad as a separate location. Encrypted vaults open only in the DiscoDrive app.

Android

Your whole storage, uploading and downloading files, vaults.
Four phone screens. On iPhone: the folder list (Books, Documents, Music, Photos, Projects) and a photo being viewed. On Android: the same folder list and a file menu with Open, Download, Pin, Share, Version history, Rename, Move and Delete.
Left, iPhone: folders and a photo viewer. Right, Android: folders and the file menu.

Photos from your phone, on your server

On iOS and Android, new photos go to your server, into your own folder, by themselves.

  • Uploads are configurable: for example, send photos only over Wi-Fi or only while charging.
  • The log shows what has already been uploaded.
  • Photos with the same name do not overwrite each other.
  • Photos already on the phone before auto-upload was turned on can be sent by hand.
  • An upload can be stopped at any moment.

A vault the server cannot read

Passport scans, contracts, personal photos — that is what the vault is for. Contents and file names are encrypted on your device; the server only sees ciphertext.

The vault uses the Cryptomator format. A local copy opens in the official Cryptomator apps, even if your server is down or you no longer use DiscoDrive.

The recovery key is a 44-word phrase, the same one for DiscoDrive and Cryptomator. Decrypted files never end up in sync.

You get ordinary files; the server gets ciphertext.
  • Both contents and file names are encrypted.
  • Cryptomator format.
  • A 44-word recovery key.
  • Nothing decrypted goes to the server.

In the browser, the vault is read-only

You can view vault files in the browser, but not add or change them. For that you need the desktop or mobile app.

Where to start

Install the server, connect one app and try something simple: open a document from your phone or sync a folder.
